Who We Are
Jeff Whinery, PT, is a 1998 graduate from Andrews University in Dayton, Ohio, with a master degree in physical therapy. His expertise is knee dysfunction, including post-surgical rehabilitation, and also with spinal stabilization exercise programs. He enjoys time with his wife and daughters and is an avid rock climber. Whinery is an Eastern Oregon University alumnus and has been a long time resident of the Grande Ronde Valley.
June Wilson, OTL, is a 1991 graduate from the University of Puget Sound with a bachelor degree in occupational therapy. Her expertise includes treatment of swallowing problems and osteoporosis, evaluation of home safety and power wheelchair mobility, and Anodyne treatment of painful extremities. Wilson enjoys spending time with her three daughters and husband, as well as the outdoor activities of camping, hiking and biking when she can squeeze them into her schedule.
Julie Richard, PT, graduated from Pacific University in 1977 with a bachelor degree in physical therapy. Richard has been on staff since August of 1988. Her specialties include lymphoedema management and wound care. Outside of work, she enjoys riding her mule in the wilderness.
Elizabeth Zastrow, PT, graduated from Duke University in 2002 with a doctorate in physical therapy. She also has a master degree in physiology from the University of Arizona. Zastrow specializes in women’s health, physical therapy for pelvic pain and continence management, and foot and ankle rehabilitation. She enjoys spending time with her husband, biking, running, hiking and baking anything that includes chocolate chips.
Gina Valainis, COTA/L, graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1982 with an associate degree as a certified occupational therapy assistant. Valainis specializes in geriatric rehab, fall prevention and balance rehabilitation, and preoperative teaching for total joint replacement patients. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as tending to her herb garden and pets.
Roger Akers, PT, graduated from California State University at Long Beach in 1978 with a bachelor degree in physical therapy. His professional background is in orthopedic and sports medicine, skilled nursing care, acute care rehabilitation and home health. Akers has been on staff since August of 1988. In his free time, Roger enjoys golfing, working in his shop, and spending time with his three grandkids.
Vicky Lynn Sullivan, LPTA, is a 1998 graduate of Mount Hood Community College with an associate's degree in applied science as a lisensed physical therapist assistant. Sullivan specializes in acute care and pediatric rehabilitation. She has been a part of the team since September of 2002.
John Evans, SLP, was raised in La Grande and graduated from University Of Oregon in 1983 with a master's degree in speech pathology. He works with ages five to 100. In his spare time, Evans enjoys singing and performing with his band.
Vanessa Johnson, PT, is a 2007 graduate of California State University, Northridge with a master's degree in physical therapy. Her professional background is in acute care, orthopedic rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. She enjoys hiking, backpacking and river rafting. Johnson grew up in Joseph, OR, and was happy to return to this area.
What do the letters mean?
A PT is a Physical Therapist.
An OTL is an Occupational Therapist Licensed.
A COTA/L is a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant/Licensed.
An LPTA is a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant.
An SLP is a Speech and Language Pathologist.
